About the Artist
Pencil Art Drawings
A resident of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Michael Richmond has lived in the Charleston area for 30 years. He is an artist currently specializing in pencil drawing. He is now working on a project where each piece represents a detailed portion of historical Charleston architecture. He has also worked with oils, water colors and a few other media, but his favorite is pencil. Pencil gives him a high degree of control, and allows him to create subtle patterns in his drawings. Over the last three years Michael has won numerous prizes in local juried shows, has exhibited his work in a number of local galleries and has had a few one-man shows. This year (2008), he has entered a few national juried shows; and, so far, has been awarded an honorable mention for his “Cathedral Entryway”. In addition to his current architectural project, Michael is known for his portrait drawings which include children, dogs and horses.
Prints of Richmond’s work are carried in the following locations: The Gibbes Museum of Art, The Charleston Museum, Preservation Society of Charleston, Drayton Hall, Magnolia Plantation, and The Governor’s House Inn. Originals are currently on display at The Governor’s House in Charleston and at The Atlanta Artists Center.
